If you’ve ever wondered how a logo is printed on a mug or a bag, look no further. Unsurprisingly, there are lots of ways to print a design. Each type gives your product a different look and feel. The availability of some printing methods are dependent on the shape or texture of the product.

Decorating Popular Products

Pad printing is a classic decoration method that suits a lot of common promotional gifts. In this technique, we cut out a plate (called a cliché) in the shape of your logo design, then dip it in our high-quality ink. The plate is then pressed against your product, leaving behind the ink in your chosen outline.

Only one colour can be added to a design at a time using pad printing and it requires a staff member line things up by sight, so as such we recommend it for single colours to ensure the best result.

Bulk Branding Options

You could think of pad printing as akin to a big version of using a stamp at home. It takes training and experience to use modern pad printing machines and out team is adept at using them across our product range. Pad printing is one of the most cost effective printing options when you're looking at basic decoration (1 colour/1 position) but it isn't the best choice for all products.

Items like metal pens that see constant use and friction against the skin don't hold onto pad printing designs well, so we tend to recommend using a technique like laser engraving instead as it cannot be "rubbed off" over time. Pad printing also takes time to try, so it may not be suited to rush orders.

New Zealand's Choice

However, for basic promotional gifts like bulk stress toys or custom notebooks, pad printing is a fantastic choice and one that can really elevate a regular item into something special.
